The headboard profile of the estate bed plays off the shape of the curved case fronts with opposing curved shapes adding drama and interest. The outward curve of the carved scroll heads as they ascend toward the central carved shell gives a sense of movement to the headboard. The head and footboard feature picture framed carving that matches the case fronts and a sunburst veneer pattern of book matched cherry cathedrals radiating outward. Avodire cross banding, herringbone inlay and an applied molding carved in bead and bobbin design transition the sunburst field toward the carved perimeter moldings. The posts are crowned by hand carved newel tops and the acanthus carvings match the case pilasters. The footboard is purposely near bedding height to avoid obstruction of the television screen and has a rounded and heavy cap rail evocative of a finely crafted stair railing. The base of the footboard matches the cases and has an attractive return down the sides for a consistent finished look from every angle. The side rails are a generous 14-1/2 wide and are fully dressed with shaped moldings and fancy face veneers. The finish is a rich and warm pomegranate shade that has both depth and clarity which allows the natural beauty of the wood graining to shine through. Burnished edges, hand rubbed fronts and machine rubbed tops provide a satiny glow that enriches the Old World feel of this collection.
